Mid-Court Crisis Management:
Getting Out of No Man’s Land
… Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
In pickleball, getting stuck in "no man's land" can be a common occurrence, even for seasoned players. This mid-court area, typically between the baseline and the non-volley zone (NVZ), often poses significant challenges. When players find themselves in this zone, they need to employ strategic footwork, shot selection, and tactical thinking to turn a potential crisis into an opportunity.
What is Mid-Court Crisis Management?
Mid-court crisis management refers to the strategies and techniques used to effectively handle the awkward mid-court area. This area is often referred to as "no man's land" because it is too far from the net for effective volleys and too close to the baseline for comfortable groundstrokes. Being caught here can leave players vulnerable to attack, as opponents can exploit their positioning with aggressive shots.

How Does a Pickleball Workout
Compare to Other Sports?
Sweat, Sweat, Sweat
Pickleball has become America's fastest-growing sport, but how does it stack up as a workout compared to other racquet sports? Todd Boss set out to find the answer by measuring his own exertion across pickleball, tennis, squash, and racquetball.
Using an Apple Watch to track calories burned and heart rate, Boss tested various competitive levels of each sport. While pickleball singles proved to be the most intense workout, open play doubles fell short.

💪 WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PARTNER
IS WEAKER THAN YOU
TIPS TO OVERCOME PLAYING WITH A WEAKER PARTNER
Zane Navratil offers a great video on this very common problem. Watch it several times.
Six tips to help you with a weaker partner:
1. Protect your partner
2. Stack
3. Get them a lobster ball machine
4. Play more aggressively
5. Take extreme ownership
6. Be a good partner and encourage them!
1. Protect your partner: dink in front of yourself. Keep your partner from being attacked.
2. Stacking: position your partner so you can help them and take more balls. Switch sides so you can be on the strong side and take more balls. Be sure to watch stacking videos to learn this strategy.
3. Drill with them! This way they can improve their game!
4. Be more aggressive with your positioning, your dinks, on your own terms, and keep your partner from getting isolated. Poach, take the middle, keep it deep to their backhand so they cannot attack your partner.
5. Take ownership – you are the stronger player, so you need to bring out the best in them. Keep it deep, help your partner on defense, etc.
6. Be a good egg. Give them encouragement. Do not blame them. Be supportive. Give suggestions if asked.
At the end, Zane tells you how to tank, but this is a bit of a joke. The other team hates it when you do not try. I would not advise you to lose quickly to get off the court. Always give it your best shot. This is what you would want from them.
